Welcome to the Omaha Music Teachers Association, (OMTA), Website. The organization was established in 1933 and merged with Private Music Instructors in 2000. OMTA has a membership of over 100 qualified and experienced teachers. The average teaching experience is 20 years. Forty percent of our teachers have earned their bachelors degree in Music. Thirty percent of those have gone on to complete their Masters and Doctoral programs. We offer private and group lessons in all major instrument categories.

The benefits of membership include:

bullet A listing in our directory that is available to the public in retail stores throughout the Omaha Metro area. *Your primary listing in our directory includes one name, one phone number, one address under your main teaching instrument. Additional addresses, phone numbers, and instruments may be listed, at $10.00 per addition.
bullet A listing on our website, searchable by zip code, instrument and in alphabetical order.  This listing will be the same as in our printed directory, including additional information.  The $10.00 fee will not be duplicated.
bullet Monthly programs September thru May that address a variety of topics designed to inspire, develop skills, and inform teachers on current and new teaching ideas and methods.
bullet Free attendance to the Spring Workshop.
bullet Students of OMTA teachers are able to participate in all of OMTA's events: The Music Fundamentals Fair, Composition Contest, Senior Scholarship Award, The Young Artist Competition, and The Trophy Festival. (Some restrictions will apply. See each individual event for further information.)
bullet Monthly Newsletter.
bullet General Membership Meetings September -May, members are encouraged to attend and participate. These meetings are the same day as the monthly programs.
bullet December and May Luncheons, members are responsible for the cost of the Lunch.


*Membership fees are effective from July through June. To be listed in the directory dues must be paid by May 31.

Our Mission Statement

The purpose for which the Association is organized and operated is exclusively literary and educational, as defined in Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and its regulations as they now exist or as they may hereafter be amended.  The purpose of this Association shall be the advancement of music education, and in specific furtherance thereof:

  1. To conduct programs and activities to build a vital musical culture and an enlightened musical public for the benefit and the general welfare of all persons;

  2. To ensure that every student shall have access to a balanced, comprehensive, and high-quality program of music instruction;

  3. To facilitate the education of music teachers.
